Lorry Marvin and Melanie Scheible will tell us about Born Free USA, a nonprofit based in Sacramento that works to protect wildlife, and keep it wild. They have very few employees and yet have worked for 40 years, doing everything from successfully lobbying governments for stronger protection laws to operating a 186-acre Primate Sanctuary in Texas that is home to more than 500 nonhuman primates.

Topics will include trends in local and regional food systems andAgVision: Strategies for Sustainability. A quarter million bats hang out beneath the Yolo Causeway. Mary Jean "Corky" Quirk, a conservationist and the Yolo Foundation, a woman with a passion for the misunderstood creatures will present a lecture (with a bat in tow.) This could be a precursor to an exciting off-site viewing of their aerial show in the spring.

Elena Sanchez is Operations Manager for Western Service Workers Association. This community organization provides services and assistance to its members in exchange for their participation in the organization's activities. Ms. Sanchez and some of the WSWA members will describe their programs and talk about legislative efforts on behalf of in-Home Supportive Service Workers and other low-income individuals and households.
